I cannot download any files, as I get File: (blank) and Type: Unknown, instead of the actual information that would appear if I turn off ZoneAlarm. How do I fix this?

I have the exact same problem. This may be a stupid question, but if we upgrade to ZA 9, would we have to buy it again even though our subscription isn't up?

And I'm using ZA Extreme Security version 8.0.298.035. Is there no patch for this problem either?

Yes, Update to ZAX 9. If you have a valid ZAX license, you can update to ZAX 9.
