I upgraded to Windows 7 recently. Part of the process was to uninstall ZoneAlarm first. I uninstalled ZoneAlarm then upgraded windows they reinstalled the latest version of ZoneAlarm zaSuitSetup 91.008.000
Everything went fine then yesterday I noticed the zone alarm icon was not in my system tray. So I clicked on the zonealarm UI start link it seems to try to start but it never does, I can't get the UI to come up. When I go to task manager, under processes I don't see anything I know to be zonealarm related like truevector.. However, windows is seems to think zone alarm is running. I am even getting a windows notification that Zone Alarm is reporting my virus definitions are out of date. So I have uninstalled and reinstalled zone alarm twice. Once with the standard uninstall link, then a again with the zone alarm removal tool - cpes_clean.exe. Both times while uninstalling I got the pop up from windows that my firewall was being uninstalled. Then after reinstall, I can't see any sign that zonealarm is running and the zonealarm UI will not start up. I have used ZoneAlarm for years, something definitely is not right. Any ideas? How do I check if I am running with any firewall protection. How do I get Zone Alarm functioning normally. One note - when I first upgraded to windows 7 and reinstalled Zone Alarm it worked as usual for about a week until yesterday. |

I put windows in safe mode and uninstalled and reinstalled zonealarm with no luck.
I then tried to right click on the za icon and then "run as an administrator" and zone alarm started right up and started running properly. I even did a virus scan. Now the problem is on reboots zonealarm does not start up. In need to manually start it in administrator mode. I tried putting it in the startup folder but that does not work. Anyone know how to make zonealarm run at start up? This is a fairly important feature of a firewall. Or how to make zonealarm run just by left clicking on the za icon? |

Sounds like its running.
In Windows 7 System try icons are hidden, unlike XP and vista. There is a little up arrow (best I can describe it) in the system try and you click on that to see the icons being hidden. You can change the properties to always show the icon. Also with 9.1 a shortcut is created on the desktop (unless you uncheck that option at install) You can access the GUI that way also. Just because you don't see ZA does not mean its not running. The GUI is not protecting you at all its just an interface and is not the firewall. Or contact support via live chat during the hours they are open, see the hours and link in my signature. Forum Moderator

In the notifications I had show all icons selected. In task manager show all processes checked. It was not running.
Now this morning I reboot. Go to manually start ZA and I get a box that says: ZoneAlarm Security Suite has de-activated Anti-virus/Anti-sppyware scanning . This can occur if the system clock has been set forward or anti-virus/antii spyware updates are disabled. Click here to update now and re-activate scanning. I click here and ZA shuts completely off. I have an up to date license, and my clock has not changed except Sunday morning for day-light savings time. Date and time is correct. Back to uninstalls and re installs. |

Ticket submitted. I could not put a whole lot of information in the explain what is happening box so I did my best and also pointed them to this thread for more details.
It will be interesting to see how helpful and fast they are. |

Well, the best is to contact them when they are on-line so that they can assist you on the spot. Otherwise you may need to wait several days. They are ONLINE now...
Note that this a USER forum related to PRODUCT related issues. Fastest/slowleness or helpfulness/unhelpfulness of ZA staff is not part of this board, may be good for other generic discussion boards ![]() Cheers, Fax

"You should receive a reply to your issue via email within 2 working days (excluding weekends and major holidays) under normal request volume." I uninstalled and reinstalled again in safe mode. I tried to re-enter my license key purchased and it says invalid. This is a 3 license 1 year key purchased April 2009. It is on 3 PCs but I have reinstalled ZA on this machine when I moved to windows 7. Also, my laptop was having major slow down issues after 3 years so I wiped it clean and did a complete restore to clear out the cobwebs and had to reinstall ZA on it also. Then my son's Norton expired so I had him go to Zone Alarm since I should have one extra license. ZA is working fine on the Laptop and my son's computer now but not on this one so I am thinking ZA thinks it is being used on more than 3 machines and that is at the root of my problems. Perhaps all the reinstalling and installing caused a miscount? Is there a way to reset the key on all computers so usage is counted properly? I am beginning to thing this is all a license issue... |

Hello!
technical support is online now, no use to keep posting here. You need to contact them. Try to be as clear as possible, short and to the point. To me all sound pretty confusing. To check your Key, you can contact ZA customer support, they are online 24/7. Fax
