Trying to restart a remote computer which has ZA running. When I use the command line restart (shutdown -r -t 01), I get some error message from ZA about Vector. Could ZA be preventing a restart? It shuts down fine. Are there any settings in ZA I need to change to permit a remote restart?
Thanks.
There are over 60 thousand of these files taking up over 30 gigabytes.

After waiting a few minutes, I am able to turn it back on, of course I have lost my homepage and have to reset it, but it's a hassle I guess I can live with.

It happened to me twice tonight (Fri), and I went thru the repower on, but I have my ZA antivirus scan for Fri at 8pm, and wouldn't you know it, I haven't had any shutdown problems while ZA has been scanning.....so I got to thinking, maybe there is some setting in my ZA (I have Internet Security) that conflicts with my sites and as a result the default is to shut down my computer. While the scan is going, I am having no problems, but when the scan is done, all bets are off.

Sites that I go to when this happens usually is Yahoo sports, or any message board like this one.

I have been using ZoneAlarm for a 5-7 years now. But I find that ZA Internet Suite is so slooow and it is really frustrating.

--problem 1 --
ZA used to be pretty fast. But now it is very slow. There are flaws in the way it ZA works, for instance as soon as you turn on the PC and and you want to connect to the internet. You cannot access the internet at all, UNTIL ZA has downloaded its update. Why can't it let users access the internet in the mean timeand also download an update in the background?

Sometimes, if there are problems it can take 4-5 minutes to get an update. The ZA servers may be in the US, but I am in the UK.

--- problem 2 --
Also, I don't know what ZA is doing on my PC. If you install a clean copy of Windows XP, it is fast, you install ZoneAlarm and the whole machine is running like a dog.

~~snip~~

vsmon.exe is using 25,724k of memory and has had 1,665,414 page faults. All these things slow down a PC.....

I have a paid version of spyware doctor and they just had a new version. It told me zone alarm was conflicting and remove it which I didnt. I just wanted spyware doctor not their antivirus. Then zone alarm kept telling me one of the program files was a virus and put it in quarantine. I put it in the exceptions but zone alarm just keeps doing that. Then my computer screen went blue so I uninstalled spyware doctor. Is there a way I can use zone alarm and spyware doctor. I dont use spyware doctor in real time just in case I have a trojan. Or what other program would you recommend?

I am a bit upset since I paid for spyware doctor. I have written to them also. Just would like to know what you think I should do? Thanks

Microsoft Update and some program installations require a restart of my laptop, which I usually just put into hibernate instead of shutting it down.

While my shutdown time is quite acceptable, my startup time isn't. I spend several minutes with only my background wallpaper and a cursor visible--no taskbar, nothing. I don't see my HD LED flickering so I assume the delay is caused by high CPU usage.

If I uninstall ZAP with the ZA Clean Removal Tool, my startup time returns to normal. When I reinstall ZAP, I experience the problem again.

The README file said that startup would be pretty slow the first few times after installing ZAP, but it's still pretty slow and I've restarted my laptop quite a few times now.

I admit that I have a lot of services and such running, but my startup time is fine without ZAP.

I joined the forum because of this problem. I was horrified when I saw this message appear when I opened up my new site. This is going to be a huge blow to everyone who puts up a new site.

My site will be 3 months old in a few days, so I hope that the message will disappear then. But what about the point re security certificate. Does anyone know what action is needed to remedy this??????

On a more hopeful note, I have been advised (by someone who has overcome this problem in the past) of the following remedy

"Regular little updates. Even something as simple as creating some pages with relevant articles (swiped from article directories) and uploading them to your FTP. Make sure that your hosting / domain registration account has your full details for their reference, i.e. your address, phone number, full name, etc. NB These pages don't need to be linked to the site .... just FTP them to the domain" .

I have started to do this and I'll advise when it works.

No way to start a relationship!

I'm a new paying customer, new to Zone Alarm and happy as hell to be running away from Norton.

The single greatest and most profound disappointment thus far with Zone Alarm is SmartDefender. Its complete lack of any useful information in 32 of 32 "triggered" events does little to impress or insure the new to ZA customer. SmartDefense, by name, is the highest profile most damning statement of incompleteness within ZA.

Its gross failure speaks volumes to an old software manager:

1. Never....NEVER....release a new asset that clearly points to a lack of functional usefulness within your own product JUST when it is required.

2. When the user sees that the most rudimentary issues result in "I haven't got a clue?!" statements right when the user needs it most, well the result is a complete lack of confidence in anything else that is going on behind the scenes.

3. Always, provide for "was that helpful" for ALL new asset releases. Otherwise, how will you truly know its time to gather your SMartDefense team into a room, close the door and ask "what the hell is going on?!" Yes, ZA, its that time....

4. Know when your product is failing and be ready to act accordingly. SmartDefense is the kind of name that requires SMART DEFENSE. A lack of ANY information flow is anything OTHER than that.

Strip it out....strip it out NOW! Hand it back to the team that thought it was important and spend extra time explaining that THEY own this one. It may be the only smart defense left on this asset.

Once I upgraded to Win 7 (Premium Home, 32-bit), I can no longer click on the small ZAP icon in the taskbar and have it do anything. It totally ignores all clicks, left or right. The regular icon on the desktop properly points to the right path ("C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe"), but it also does nothing when I click or double-click it.

I've run commercial registry cleaner/fix-it tools, but these problems remain.

Any suggestions?
